About Strong Health

Friends of Strong

You Can Make a Difference by VolunteeringYoung volunteers delivering flowers

At Strong Memorial Hospital, our volunteers are a vital part of the patient care team, providing needed services to both patients and their families. Volunteers are seen throughout the hospital escorting patients, delivering flowers, working in our shops, and working at the information desk.

Friends of Strong, with over 1,300 volunteers, provides quality programs and services throughout the hospital and community. During the year we organize many fundraisers and special events that help raise money to purchase amenities that the hospital could not otherwise afford.

Friends of Strong Volunteer Program

Our volunteer program offers over 100 job descriptions, all of which provide necessary support to patients and their families. We have volunteer opportunities in customer service, patient/non-patient contact, clerical/reception, and fund raising.

To Become a Volunteer, What Do I Need to Know?

  • First an interview with a Friends of Strong coordinator will be scheduled.
  • New York State requirements need to be met. (Information regarding these requirements will be given to you at your interview.)
  • Volunteers must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, after proper training.
  • Volunteers must be comfortable around patients, visitors, and family members in an acute-care facility and must be empathetic to their situation.
  • Volunteers need to be clear communicators and speak fluent English.
